It seems that FSG have been persuaded to part with some cash this summer. After limping through last year’s transfer windows, with only Federico Chiesa to show for it, Liverpool look like they are going hell for leather to reinforce and upgrade key positions in order to defend the Premier League and push for Champions League glory next season.
It’s easier on the nerves when we hit the ground running as the summer transfer window approaches. There’s nothing worse than holding out until the final few minutes of deadline day watching kids gesturing behind a Sky Sports reporter stood outside the training ground.
Fortunately, Jeremie Frimpong was an early arrival and a sound replacement for the outgoing Trent Alexander-Arnold, but getting his fellow Bayer Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz has been a scoop.
As I write this he is getting pordded and poked during his final medical but, assuming all goes well, he’s going to break the British transfer record with a £116m move to Anfield What a statement of intent!
While we await the announcement of Wirtz’s transfer, we’re also now hearing that a £40m deal has been struck with Bournemouth for Milos Kerkez. This probably means that Andy Robertson will be on his way to Atletico Madrid, but this is yet to be confirmed.
And there’s more…
There’s still a lot of negotiation to be had, but Liverpool are also interested in signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. The fee could be the sticking point here, as the Eagles turned down an offer of £55m plus £15m add-ons from Spurs in January but, with the player heading into the last season of his contract, a deal could happen if the price is right.
