I touched on the issue of Club v Country back in September, when we had hopes and dreams of domestic and European glory. That feels like such a long time ago now.

World Cup fever has now swept the nation and some of the concerns raised last year are starting to resurface. However, there are some very valuable reasons why we should be embracing this tournament…

From a footballer’s perspective, playing for your country is the pinnacle of your career and it would be wrong to dismiss those ambitions just because as Liverpool fans we may not care about the England team, or any of the others ones represented by our players for that matter. They should quite rightly be proud to pull on their national team’s shirt and represent them to the very best of their ability, and we should praise them and be proud of them for getting to that level of the game.
