Thank God That's Over
Another rollercoaster season has come to a close at Anfield. Less of an exciting ride, more of a nauseous ending.
As the dust settles on the 2025/2026 campaign, it’s time to unpack what’s been a deeply emotional, transitional, and at times exhausting year for everyone connected with Liverpool Football Club.
We knew this year would test our resolve. Navigating a full season under Arne Slot after the departures of Luis Diaz and Trent Alexander Arnold last summer was always going to bring unique pressures. When you add the heartbreaking loss of Diogo Jota before the season even kicked off, this squad clearly struggled under the most difficult circumstances imaginable.
Arne will remind us that securing a return to the Champions League was our primary objective, and we managed to get over the line… just. The final day 1-1 draw against Bournemouth sealed our spot in Europe elite competition for next year, which is a massive relief.
Slot’s more controlled style of football often lacked the ‘heavy metal football’ that Jurgen gave us. However, when it worked it worked well. We saw brilliant European nights at Anfield where we brushed aside Atletico and Real Madrid. The squad did manage to reach the quarter-finals of both the Champions League and the FA Cup, but crashing out to Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City in those respective competitions showed that there is still improvement to be made if we are to have a chance of silverware next season.
