This weekend’s email was going to be a summary of the latest transfer rumours circling around Liverpool at the moment, a short preview of the upcoming pre-season friendlies and a reminder of our giveaway.
Instead, we awoke on Thursday morning to news that one of our own was no more. Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva had died in a car crash in Spain, while returning to the club for pre-season preparations.
Media has been awash with articles about it since Thursday, with past and present Liverpool players joining millions around the world in paying tribute to the ‘Lad from Portugal’.
We’ve tried to share as many of them as we can on our Facebook page and are keeping everyone up to date with announcements and statements from the club, from the retirement of his number 20 shirt to Jordan Henderson’s tearful tribute at Anfield and images of the Liverpool players attending Diogo’s funeral on Saturday morning.
Oasis even displayed an image of Jota while singing Live Forever in Cardiff on Friday night, despite them being staunch Man City supporters.
It’s times like this that the footballing world comes together, none more so than Liverpool fans.
It’s going to be a difficult season coming up, but we’ll get through it together.
